Affirmations for Worry & Anxiety

At this time with what is going on in the world, it is very easy to fall into a pattern of worry and anxiety. Honestly, even without the global crisis that we are experiencing at the time of posting this blog article, these emotions can creep up every now and then. It is a natural part of life to experience worry, fear, and anxiety at some point. So, first and foremost, don’t beat yourself up too hard if you are in a weird place.

When we are vibrating lower it can at times feel like it is difficult to connect. It can be hard to meditate because our minds keep wondering. It can make us feel like we are alone. These moments more than ever are when your spiritual practice is needed. They give you the tools you need to cope and eventually heal during trying times.

This post is to deal with anxiety and worry. Below is a Reiki video we made to aid with these emotions. Feel free to meditate to the music or play it while reading the rest of this article. All you have to do is be open to receiving the healing energy.

Why Affirmations?

Affirmations are a powerful way to retrain your mind and re-write your story. We say affirmations to ourselves all throughout the day whether we recognize it or not. Those words shape who we are and who we become. If you tell yourself you can do something you are much more likely to achieve it vs if you tell yourself you can’t. That is just an example, but it holds true for everything.  Louise Hay is a wonderful teacher to read if you are interested in discovering more about the power of affirmations (we will link our favorite book by her below). Affirmations empower you and can help you keep going on. Imagine how you feel when someone speaks highly to you vs poorly to you. You have that power for yourself.

One of our favorite ways to use affirmations is to counter negative ones we may experience with positive ones. When you are worrying you may think lower thoughts like “It will never work out” or “It will not get better” easily because of the emotional state you are in. Therefore, catch yourself when you feel that thought coming along and replace it with a positive thought, even if you don’t believe it at first. Use positive affirmations like your mantra. Say them while you meditate. Speak them to yourself all throughout the day. Replace those bad thoughts with good ones and step by step you will start to feel better.

While reading a book by Abraham Hicks recently, Abraham mentioned that like attracts like and this includes your thoughts. If you keep thinking a specific way, you begin to attract similar thought patterns. It multiples because that is what you are telling the universe you want to experience. That’s why it can be so hard to get out of a worry loop because you keep getting stuck in thinking and seeing more and more reasons to feel the way you do – completely missing that the other side of the coin. Nothing lasts forever. What you are experiencing is only temporary and most of the time the stuff you worry about doesn’t even happen. We often worry about what is already done or what hasn’t even occurred! So, when you start to use positive affirmations, you slowly start to attract or rather create a more positive thought process.

Affirmations for Worry & Anxiety

  1. With every breath, I take I am releasing fear, worry, and anxiety. This is a great affirmation to combine with mediation or yoga. You can also use it as your daily mantra. Visualize every exhale releasing all stress. Know that it is releasing from your body with each breath you take.
  2. I am safe. Often our worry and anxiety stem from a feeling that we are not going to be ok. Take a moment to bring yourself to the present. You are fine. You are safe.
  3. I am letting go of tension. There is a physical response to anxiety, fear, and stress. Our body’s often tense up. Our chests get heavy. These feelings are only temporary. Allow each muscle to drop. Imagine the tension escaping from every fiber of your being.
  4. My body is relaxed. Allow yourself to feel each muscle group relaxing one by one. Yoga Nidra is a great meditative practice that helps your physical body unwind. (This is a link to an awesome guided walk-through. HERE)
  5. I inhale strength and exhale fear. You are strong. You have made it through all of your bad days and will get through whatever you are going through now. This is another beautiful affirmation for meditation but works just as well used throughout the day.
  6. I am calm. Sometimes it’s that easy. Sometimes all you need is a simple affirmation. This is effective because it is straight to the point and not difficult to remember. You can speak it any time you feel yourself getting tense. You can tell yourself you are calm anytime you are in a funk.

In closing, you are so loved and so powerful. Allow yourself to feel what you feel but never forget that you are divinely supported. Use your spiritual practice in times like these to remind yourself that what you are going through is only temporary and that you deserve peace. We hope these affirmations help you find some solace!
