The Root Chakra: How to Tell If It Is Blocked & How to Fix It

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine. It is the first of the seven chakras. It is the root of your self and it is what your foundation rests on. It is linked to your sense of stability and security.  Characteristics of the root chakra include foundation, physicality, survival, stability, grounding, and security. Your root chakra forms the connection between your physical body and the earth. This chakra is where you ground yourself and is an anchor for your energy.

Underactive Root Chakra

An underactive chakra means that the chakra has a blockage or disruption of energy flow.  An imbalanced root chakra disrupts the foundation for the other chakras.

  1. Lack of focus – Your connection between earth and self is disrupted. You may feel ungrounded and even floaty making it difficult to concentrate or retain focus.
  2. Disconnected – The root chakra is all about connection. When your root chakra is blocked you may feel isolated from others and the world around you.
  3. Lack of organization
  4. Anxiety and fear – The root chakra is your stability, foundation, and plays on your survival instincts. Disruption with this chakra can create feelings of fear.
  5. Restlessness – With feelings of being ungrounded one may experience restlessness.
  6. Troubles with finances
  7. Lack of stamina – Your root chakra is highly responsive to your physical health. Disruptions to the chakra may cause lack of stamina and even exhaustion.

Overactive Root Chakra

An overactive chakra is when the chakra is distributing too much energy. Too much energy causes an imbalance to the chakra.

  1. Anger – You may feel like the world is out to get you. With your connection with the world around you disrupted you may get annoyed with people easily.  You do not see yourself as one or apart of the world but rather against it.
  2. Greed – This chakra is associated with your survival instincts and an overactive root chakra may cause greed and feelings associated with lack.
  3. Hard boundaries
  4. Materialistic – With feelings of lack or greed one may become overly materialistic.
  5. Impulsive
  6. Difficulty accepting change – You may feel stuck in your ways and see change as a threat to your survival.

How to Balance the Root Chakra

  1. Reiki – Reiki is a great way to balance your root chakra. Above is a Reiki video design to send the healing energy to help balance your root chakra. All you have to do is be open to receiving the Reiki energy. For more information on Reiki click here.
  2. Meditation – Sit or lay in a comfortable position.  With your eyes closed breathe in and out slowly. Try inhaling through your nose for 4 seconds and then out slowly through your mouth.  Bring your attention to your root chakra located at the base of the spine.  Imagine a glowing red light filling your root chakra. Stay here for several minutes until you intuitively decide to stop.
  3. Affirmations – During the day or while meditating say affirmations like ” I feel deeply rooted” or “I am safe.”
  4. Crystals – Use crystals in your space, during meditation, or wear ones that are associated with the root chakra. Bloodstone is great.
  5. Essential Oils – Grapefruit and Myrrh are great. They can be worn or used in an oil diffuser. We highly recommend meditating while having the essential oil drifting through the air.
